As readers of this blog will know our focus is firmly on the positive side of life. Good news. Stories to encourage us. To make us smile.

So, this week, here’s a story we recently heard which illustrates just how powerful a little encouragement can be.

Two frogs named Bill and Bob fell into a deep pit together. At first, they thought it would be easy to jump out.

But, after lots of failed attempts, they cried out for help and a crowd of animals gathered around the pit.

Everyone agreed it was hopeless, so they urged Bill and Bob to accept their fate. The harder the trapped frogs jumped, the more the crowd yelled at them to give up.

Finally, Bill stopped trying. Bob refused to quit and with one mighty try he leaped right out of the pit.

The crowd was amazed. Someone asked him why he kept trying, when everyone told him he had no chance.

Bob was baffled. “What are you saying?” he asked. “I’m a bit deaf. I was sure you were all cheering me on. I couldn’t have done it without your encouragement.”

So what’s the moral of this story?

Well, of course, there’s the power of a little encouragement.

But, more importantly, it shows how powerful a little selective hearing can be, whether done consciously or not. Of only hearing the things we choose to hear. Bob refused to quit and chose to only hear encouragement.

What do you choose to hear?

Positive, encouraging words. Or the more negative, dis empowering ones.

And who can you give a little encouragement to today?

As always, the choice is yours.
