It’s easy to forget just how much impact we have on the world around us – and we’re not just talking about the actions we take. The things we do.

Our words are just as powerful, whether spoken out loud or as the running commentary in our heads. So, our thoughts need to be added to the list. Or, as it used to be referred to “our thoughts, words and deeds…”

And, as an aside, you may like to mull over the order in which these are listed. Thoughts, followed by words, followed by deeds. It perfectly sums up the way in which we create everything in our lives, whether we’re aware of it or not. Everything starts as a thought – conscious or unconscious – which we then talk about – whether out loud or in our heads – and, finally, it’s expressed as a deed – or action, if you prefer.

While our spoken – or written – words and deeds are there for everyone to hear – or see – it’s often not realised that our thoughts also ripple out into the world around us. True, they may not be “heard” in the same way as our words, but their vibe most definitely is, as we’ve all experienced at some time. We may not know exactly what someone is thinking, but we most definitely feel their vibe, whether consciously or subconsciously. And that applies to all emotions, whether positive or negative, particularly the negative…

And, just as a “birds of a feather flock together”, so do our thoughts, words and deeds. Or, put more homeopathically, like attracts like. As more people put more of their energy and focus into something – however they may do so and whatever it may be – it then starts to gain a momentum of its own, pulling yet more energy and focus into it. And it’s easy to see these days, with campaigns and lobbying popping up on a daily basis seemingly from nowhere, mobilising support and action in very short order. An issue or point of view rarely heard of one day quickly becomes “the” issue everyone is talking about.

We know that some people may find all of this a little too abstract to get a hold on, so here are a couple of great analogies.

If every one of your thoughts, words and deeds equated to £10, £50 or £100 – however much would make you stop and think before spending it (!) – would you still do it? Would you be happy to “invest” that amount of money in it from your monthly income? We bet that made you stop and think!

Or, what if they were each seen as a “yes” vote to whatever it is. Would you be happy to vote for that particular policy? And, yes, unlike most elections it would be enacted at some stage, in some way (!).

So, where are we going with this?

Well, again, it’s about making conscious choices about what we’re thinking, saying and doing in the knowledge that they all have an effect. While some effects may be obvious than others, they’re still happening.

And, if you needed an added incentive, here’s one. Not only do they affect the world around us, as well as those they are aimed at, but ourselves. Regardless of where we’re aiming them, the first person they effect is us. And, you might like to read that last sentence over a few times and let it sink it. We really are our own worst enemy at times, without ever realising it.

There’s also growing research linking particular health issues and emotions, particularly those occurring over a long period of time. It’s the reason we regularly write about mindset and the Little Monster in our Heads AND why it features in most conversations with Clients.

It really does all count, affecting us first and then the world – and people – around us.

As always, the choice is yours.
