When it doesn't feel as though you're making a difference...

We all try to do the “right” thing, whatever that may be. Whether in our own lives or affecting the wider world. And, let’s be honest, sometimes we wonder why on earth we bother – or whether it’s really making any difference.
Having had this conversation several times recently with both Clients and friends – which is always a hint it would make a good topic for a blog post (!) – here’s a great little story to remind you that it’s ALWAYS worthwhile.
If you’re sitting comfortably, then here we go.
One morning a man was walking along the beach after a storm and saw hundreds of starfish washed up along the water’s edge.
In the distance, he saw a boy bending down and throwing the starfish back in the water, one at a time.
When he got closer, he asked the boy what he was doing.
“Well” said the boy “the starfish will die unless I throw them back into the sea as soon as possible.”
“But, aren’t there just too many to make much of a difference?” said the man.
The boy smiled, bent down and threw another starfish into the sea.
“It made a difference to that one” he said.
If you’re ever feeling a little overwhelmed by it all, remember that EVERYTHING you do makes a difference. It’s doesn’t matter whether it’s large or small. Whether you’re instantly aware of what that difference may be or not. Everything you do ALWAYS makes a difference.
Even better, it doesn’t take many people doing the same thing for the results to quickly add up into something much bigger.
And, here’s one final little thought for today.
This applies to everything in our lives, positive and less so.
