It's not personal...

 

 

However, as so often is the case, it’s the assumptions made by the Little Monster in our Heads that get us into trouble. Assumptions really do make an “ass” out of “u” and “me” (!). 

 

Just as we’re preoccupied with our own lives, so is everyone else. 

 

While some things may be intentional and aimed at us specifically – whether they’re designed to “push our buttons” or not – the majority are not. 

 

Most people are simply trying to get on with their lives, as best as they can – regardless of how that may seem to those around them. 

 

However much we’d like them to, no one else can read our minds. 

 

Or know exactly what we need at that particular moment. And, ironically, we often don’t know ourselves either… 

 

In fact, very few people are thinking about us right now. Not because they don’t care, but because they’re immersed in their own lives. Perhaps fighting their own particular demons or battles that no one will ever know about. 

 

So, please, don’t take it personally. It really isn’t meant that way. 

 

Instead, be kind. To them AND, just as important, to yourself. 

 

And when we do, something magical happens. Rather than it being “them” and “us”, it’s about all of us. What happens to one of us affects many more, the effects rippling out in a myriad of ways we could never have anticipated. 

 

Yes, it really can be that simple. 

 

Making our lives – and everyone else’s – flow a little more easily. Which, after all, is what we all want.
